El Suceso

Group Exhibition El Suceso at Fundación Épica La Fura dels Baus. Anemoia Collective.

On Saturday, December 14, 2024, Asociación Anemoia finally presented El Suceso in Badalona, Barcelona, in collaboration with Fundación Épica. The works presented on this occasion introduce the universe of La Hammada, a project that explores waiting and the anticipation of change through the lens of new prophecies and virtual collapse.

Visual and sound artists: Gaia Fiorina, Aran, Fran García, Hzky, Romero Dog, and ukd.

Curators: Arturo López Domingo, Misael Jon Niceto Ordóñez y Miu Horemans.

The works we present on this occasion from Asociación Anemoia introduce us to the universe of La Hammada, a project that explores waiting and the anticipation of change through the lens of new prophecies and virtual collapse. At first glance, these pieces seem to capture the apparent calm of a rocky desert, but beneath this silent surface lies a constant tension, an expectation of imminent transformation.

The metaphor of the rocky desert invites reflection on the nothingness that awaits something, the state of active and anxious waiting that characterizes La Hammada. Each work functions as a landscape-like manifestation of change, where the aridity of the environment emphasizes the urgent need for an event to break the stillness. It is within this space that the artists collaborate, creating a non-human narrative that explores the intersection between prophecy and technology.

The exhibition El Suceso is divided into three acts.

FIRST ACT:

el estanque

In Act I, we observe Gaia Fiorina’s piece The Pond, which presents a Game of Life where, in addition to the evolution and self-organization of life on the board, we see those Space Invaders crabs swimming in The Pond, engaging with both life and entropy.

SECOND ACT:

el PRADO

In Act II, on one hand, we present Aran’s animations, created using Flipnote, a Nintendo DSi application, which abstract various motifs and themes from the narratives; on the other hand, a video art piece by Fran García, which uses the technique of datamoshing (or video code corruption) to reflect on the saturation of the image.

Third Act:

LA HAMMADA

In Act III, El Suceso concludes with a live gameplay of the walking simulator La Hammada, developed by Hzky, where the various elements that appear across the desert serve as clues that simultaneously structure the path for the observer.

Throughout the three acts, the soundscapes composed and produced by Romero Dog can be heard, with Aday Ventura’s voice narrating the stories.
